Home and unpacked... Good day, thank you if you came and listened to us play, think our tiredness won, dispite our blurry eyed struggles, not even the case of rockstar was enough to inject required life
Hope you saw connan mockasin on after us, Was really good to hear them play again.
In Huddersfield today... Just Waiting to sound check now... Two big screens of football and pumping buster rhymes for entertainment... P dog is in his element... I'm enjoying the uv lights effect on my shoes.. Snazzy don't you think?
Tuesday 31st September – the windmill, Brixton I have a weird relationship with this place.. I like it, I don’t think I should but its good, & despite it seeming so unlikely, gigs here are good. I guess the fact the venue & those that it run care about the bands they put on plays a big part… first gig of tour.. first time we’ve played many of these songs live, first time we’ve played 12 songs in one set and our first proper encore… didn’t leave ourselves which anywhere to go after the first night really.. its all downhill from here…
Friday 3rd November – lee rosie's tea shop, Nottingham Great little tea shop, no alcohol, just nice tea & nice cakes & a little too small for me as a venue. Dimitri enjoyed playing without the p.a which was good.. it’s true his drums sounded nice but the lights being on & lack of any venue normality made this one a tough one for me to get into.. offered ‘charley’ insistently out on our wonders, didn’t like feeling like we look like obvious targets.. it’s only more excusable/acceptable a few more dates in.. i totally recommend the vanilla tea if your passing here!
Tuesday 7th November – travelling north Just one of many trip highlights – Dimitri getting thrilled at the revelation that his Golden Axe skills haven’t left him after many years unused, to learn he is ‘playing’ the demo ☺
Wednesday 8th November – The Doghouse, Dundee Good pool table. Good sound engineer, matthew, who’s in a band called ‘poppollo’(sp?!) I imagine they might be good too.
Thursday 9th November – Captains Rest, Glasgow Great venue. Whole trip marred by me passing up on too good a deal on a snarling dogs mold spore pedal in a second hand shop. If you live in Glasgow please email me! Really, I’ll be your friend for life if you can help me get my hands on that thing.
Friday 10th November – The Brickyard, Carlisle Scary gig. Forgettable - terrible sound. Great day though – trip around overwater bass factory, then hat shopping. What more could you ask for?
Saturday 11th November – Vintage Rock Bar, Doncaster We’ve put this city into Room 101. Sorry if you were there this night. Drive was good – we saw a Camel. What’s that doing in the Yorkshire dales ay?
Sunday 12th November – Clwb Ifor Back, Cardiff Wow, what a welcome relief - sunshine & people. & happy, friendly people too. I liked it here. Gig was odd, strange atmosphere - A bit like at the tea shop as we were in the corner on the floor, quite quiet & with the lights up… plus, made worse by the phantom Bflat expander, making any Bflat feedback like a little noise demon but in a very bad way.
Tuesday 13th November – Jericho Tavern, Oxford Strangest experience of the tour – having to fight to keep the gig on!
Wednesday 16th November - home Day off – pretty memorable for some poor person crashing into the front of our beloved parked up van. Barely leaving behind a scratch on our monster, yet writing their poor little car off. Don’t mess with the monster. Seriously.
Thursday 15th November – The Boileroom, Guildford Everything’s breaking. My Danelectro has little life inside. & my two overdrive pedals just packed up and left without any goodbye. Horrible gig. Plus, I know what your thinking: it couldn’t possible get any worse, but well, it can, I broke a string for third gig running ☹
all these dates have been experienced with the very, very, very nice man known as mr. rod thomas, you can have a listen to him here: www.myspace.com/rodthomasmusic
